On a regular basis, DK employees have to log the amount of hours they contribute towards a books’ creation. In doing so, it enables DK to measure how cost effective a title is in relation to its success in the market. The method of logging employees time though was time consuming and visually displeasing for the end users, making time logging discouraging for users to undertake. This was problematic as DK would have inaccurate costs for titles. Meaning they couldn’t get a true picture of the monetary impression a book has on the company.
The result of the designs I created turned TAPS into a web app that used Google Material components. DK staff were experienced in using Google products for other tasks, so to be greeted with familiar components made the process of logging time less abrasive and quicker to achieve compared to before. Then in styling the components with a contemporary look, it gave the experience a unique, fresh look that users found aesthetically pleasing, further encouraging them to log their time.
